I’m Jonathan and I’m a Problem-Solver … er, Product Designer.

I’m a product designer with 12+ years experience in product, strategy, and leadership for my employers and their clients.

I love applying creative, data-driven solutions to complex problems, making things easier to use. I always keep my empathy hat handy.

I delight in coaching, teaching, and partnering to accomplish goals. I actively seek opportunities for growth and collaboration.

I live in St. Louis with my wife and son. My other passions include whisky and board games.

D&D Beyond - Game Data Listings

Results:

Improved successful browsing, increased filter discoverability, and reduced user time finding a solution.

Roles:

Product Design, Strategy, Design System

About:

The listings for D&D game data are difficult to filter and nearly impossible to compare to one another when trying to find the best option for your game or character.

My goal was to enable more intuitive filtering, remove extraneous information, and surface options right away and persistently.

The Richmonder - Site Launch

Results:

A successful launch of a local non-profit news outlet. Captured 2500 sign ups and 150 subscriptions with a pre-launch landing page, then built a site, using the findings, to fantastic reception.

Roles:

Product Design, 0–to–1 Strategy

About:

I guided the team toward a visual style that matched the clean, uncluttered expectations that tested well with their audience. I worked to blend the print tradition with modern readability and organization.

I brought to life the 2024 Voter Guide with local resource links, race and candidate pages as well as district-level reference in a way that was easy to navigate and understand.

etrailer - Product Transition

Results:

Nine product teams were successfully formed from the pool of nearly 50 engineers. Each understood their portion of the business and discovered high-value features with which to begin experiementing.

Roles:

Product Design, Design Lead, Strategy, Workshop Facilitator, Research Lead, Product Manager Coach

About:

I helped orchestrate the business-wide move to the product model. I spent considerable time educating, communicating, and leading workshops for the engineering group in an effort to help them understand the model, their role in it, and how to best participate.

All teams were settled, researching, and conducting work on projects in the first 3 months.

I’ve continued to coach, advise, and build strategy with the product manager group, design, and engineering, and leadership.
